Today’s review is for Lakme 9 to 5 Naturale Matte Stick lip crayon which is part of Lakme’s recently launched range of aloe infused makeup and skincare products. I bought two products from this range about which I have talked in my last post Shop Pray Love : May 2018. In hot and sticky summer it feels more comfortable to wear matte lip colour and these lip colours are so comfortable, you won’t even feel you have something on your lips.
Price : ₹ 550 (for 2.2 gm product).
Shelf life : 3 years.
As you can see in the picture, there is a cardboard box in which the crayon is housed. The box contains all the details related to the product. The crayon is a retractable, two-toned plastic tube which looks metallic. The cap of the crayon is well fitting and closes with a slight click. There is no chance of it coming off in the purse. In all, the packaging is beautiful and travel friendly.
Texture, Finish and fragrance :
The texture of the crayon is not creamy. It’s dry and like any other matte lipstick. But it glides very smoothly on the lips. You don’t even need to use a lip balm beforehand. But you can prep your lips if you want a smoother application. I didn’t use lip balm and haven’t had any problem in applying it.
It’s a matte lip colour with a little bit of metallic finish which is very trendy these days. This metallic finish cannot be seen in the bullet but when you apply it on lips, you can see a bit of golden metallic touch in the finish.
One thing that I don’t like about this lip color is the fragrance of it. It’s smells medicinal and like a cough syrup. Though it’s not overwhelming and you won’t smell much of it after application, still it’s annoying. I wish it had the same vanilla fragrance like those Lakme Enrich Lip Crayons.
Shade, pigmentation and staying power :
The shade Candy Centre looks Red in the bullet but it’s a bright orange-coral with a slight golden hue. When I say golden, I do not mean shimmery. It has a light metallic finish to it. The colour looks different in different light and on different skin tones.
My camera was not able to capture the metallic finish perfectly.
Coming to the pigmentation, the lip crayon is very pigmented and has a good colour payoff. It does not look patchy and gives good coverage. If you have pigmented lips, it will cover that very well.
About staying power I don’t think it fulfills the 9 to 5 claim. But it stays for good 6 hours without reapplication. It’s not very transferable but you will need to touch up after meal or drinks.
- Nice bright colour (Candy Centre).
- Available in 15 shades.
- Metallic matte finish. Its trendy these days.
- Feels very light and comfortable on lips. Just apply and forget that you have anything on your lips.
- Infused with Aloe extract and honey.
- Retractable crayon. You don’t need a sharpener.
- Travel friendly packaging.
- Crayon is not colour coded. If you have many of them it will take time to select the right colour.
- Pricey. (But worth the price).
- Does not fulfill 9 to 5 claim. It’s not a long stay lip colour.
Final rating : 9/10. I don’t like the cough syrup smell.
Recommendation : Yes. I totally recommend it, if you are ready to shell out that much money.
